The first photograph is taken at a Shavuot service at Buchenwald. Rabbi Herschel Schachter was the US army chaplain that accompanied the liberating forces and presided over the service and also assisted in rehabilitating the lives of Jewish survivors. Present in the photo is Rabbi Lau and his brother, Naftali Lavi.
The second photo is of Johnny Baker’s father, Yossl Baker (Bekiermaszyn) pointing at himself in the photo during a visit to the Yad Vashem museum where the photo hangs prominently. Johnny Baker was the first President of the Australian Friends of Yad Vashem.
